Lame-duck Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, got angry Thursday when he was questioned over his response to the snowstorm that hammered his state this week and backed up Interstate 95.
Some drivers were stuck between Richmond, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., and Northam said he is “sick and tired” of people criticizing his response.
“I’m going to just tell you right off the bat — I don’t know why you are sitting there saying, ‘What went wrong?'” Northam chided when asked by a Virginia radio host.

“This was a storm that we haven’t seen for a long time. It started with rain that then turned into a slushy snow of 8-10 inches more than was predicted and then, after midnight, turned into essentially an ice rink, with tractor-trailers jackknifing, other vehicles leaving the road.”
If anyone is going to discuss the events on I-95 and the storm, they should be thanking first responders, Virginia’s agencies, and emergency personnel, according to Northam.
“These are men and women that were out there in the elements rescuing people, getting the interstate opened back up. I can’t be more prouder, and I hate to vent on you right now,” he said. “I am getting sick and tired of people talking about what went wrong.”
“I think we ought to be thankful that nobody got hurt, nobody lost their lives, Interstate 95 is up and running, and people are back at home and back to work.”
Northam did concede that he regretted individuals had to spend so long on I-95 but said they should be asked why they didn’t recognize the warnings the state government had provided.
“Mother Nature is a tremendous force,” he said. “This was a big storm. Over 400,000 lost electricity. Everybody is home safe, and I’m proud of the way Virginia responded to it.”
