Bloomberg says vote for him ‘if you want to live longer’ while touting New York City life expectancy

2020 Democrat Michael Bloomberg touted the life expectancy of New York City and encouraged people around the country to vote for him if they also want to extend their lives.

The former New York City mayor said that while he was in office, the life expectancy of the city shot up by three years. Speaking at a Saturday campaign event in North Carolina, Bloomberg shared several statistics, including how the number of uninsured people went down during his administration.

“In New York, we raised teacher’s salaries 43%. We also raised salaries for the firefighters, and the sanitation workers, and the police officers, and all of the people who work in the city,” he said.

“In New York, we cut the number of uninsured by 40%, providing care for mothers and babies, and raising life expectancy in New York City by three whole years. So, if you want to live longer, you could move to New York or you could just vote for me,” Bloomberg added to applause.

A RealClearPolitics average of national polls has the billionaire, who entered the race late and is self-funding his campaign, in third place with 16.4% support. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has emerged as the new front-runner with 29.6%, followed by former Vice President Joe Biden with 18.8% support.
