Trump denies telling James Comey to stop investigating Mike Flynn

President Trump denied ever ordering former FBI Director James Comey to stop investigating his first national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

Comey has testified in front of the a Senate panel that Trump made multiple comments to him that appeared to be requests for Comey to drop the bureau’s investigation of Flynn. The former Trump adviser had been wrapped up in the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

“I never asked Comey to stop investigating Flynn. Just more Fake News covering another Comey lie!” Trump tweeted Sunday.

Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI during the investigation on Friday. He’s the first member of the Trump administration to be charged and found guilty in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Three other individuals, including Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, have been charged in the case.

Trump raised other questions about Mueller’s investigation Sunday morning, pointing to a report that said one investigator was removed from Mueller’s team after evidence showed he may have been texting anti-Trump messages with another FBI employee.

“Tainted (no, very dishonest?) FBI “agent’s role in Clinton probe under review.” Led Clinton Email probe. @foxandfriends Clinton money going to wife of another FBI agent in charge,” Trump tweeted.

He later said the FBI’s reputation is at its lowest point in generations.

“After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness,” he said.
