Daniel Baldwin defends brother, says Alec was ‘crushed’ by movie shooting accident

Daniel Baldwin defended his brother, actor Alec Baldwin, and said that Alec does not bear any responsibility for the deadly shooting on the set of the Western film Rust.

Appearing on the Domenick Nati Show, Daniel Baldwin, 61, said Tuesday that Alec Baldwin was “crushed” by the horrendous accident on set. Daniel Baldwin added that he was personally stunned, saying that “as someone who has fired more rounds on set than all my brothers combined,” he was shocked by the violations of protocols that occurred on the set of Rust.

“It’s really, really apparent that Alec has no blame in this at all,” he said. “A number of protocols that have been known to the public and known in this case exonerate Alec of any responsibility at all.”

TEARFUL ALEC BALDWIN ASKED WHY HE WAS HANDED ‘HOT GUN’ AFTER FATAL SHOOTING ON SET: REPORT

Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer and injured the director while handling prop firearms on the set of Rust last month. Baldwin was reportedly handed a live gun and fired it on set under the assumption that it had a blank in it.

Daniel Baldwin is one of Alec Baldwin’s five siblings. He is famous for his roles in film and television, such as Homicide: Life on the Street, Paparazzi, and The Sopranos. Many of these roles involved scenes with similar styles of prop firearms.

“There are things that went on that broke every rule I’ve ever known,” Daniel Baldwin said. “These protocols are set up by these professionals that handle weapons and handle the safety of a set so that it could never come to that. So, rules were not followed.”

During the interview, he suggested that someone involved with preparing the gun on set was responsible, but he did not elaborate on who specifically. He said that Alec Baldwin received a lot of attention instead of a staffer on set for the tragedy because he had a lot of name recognition.

“You know Alec’s got the name, though, doesn’t he, so let’s go ahead and take Alec for his political views … and let’s see if we can’t sensationalize this and go after Alec,” Daniel Baldwin said.
