Herman Cain could pull name from consideration for Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors

Herman Cain is planning to take his name out of the running for the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, according to a new report.

Cain, who ran in the 2012 Republican primary for president, hasn’t been officially nominated for the position but is likely to pull his name from consideration in the next several days, an administration official and a source familiar with the matter told ABC News.

The move would come after Republican lawmakers expressed their disapproval of Cain for the position. The lawmakers, Sens. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, Cory Gardner, R-Colo., and Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., have said they don’t back appointing Cain to the position and would vote against his nomination.

Cain did not respond to a request for comment from ABC, but Trump told reporters earlier this week that it was up to Cain whether he would withdraw his name from consideration for the position.

“Well, I like Herman Cain. And Herman will make that determination,” Trump said Wednesday.

White House economic council director Larry Kudlow also said Thursday that Trump was still set on Cain “at the moment.”
