Max?s Taphouse in Fells Point threw a party recently just to say thanks to all the men and women in blue who put their lives on the line every day to keep us all safe and out of harm?s way. Loyal patrons, radio celebs and police officers ? off duty, of course ? gathered for the celebration, which included a bagpiper from the Emerald Society. Said Taphouse manager Bob Simko: “These men and women don?t get enough credit or appreciation for what they do.” Donations, proceeds from the auction and the sale of specially designed T-shirts added up to $3,500 for the Fallen Officer Fund.
PSST! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST
Baltimore?s own Jada Pinkett Smith is one of four women being honored by Essence Magazine. The first-ever Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon is kicking off a long Oscar weekend today in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Socially Speaking spies tell me that hubby Will Smith is joining Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Vanessa Williams on the guest list. Way to go, Hon!
A ROUND OF APPLAUSE
The recent “Rock the House” at St. Casimir Church to benefit the Believe in Tomorrow Children?s Foundation was a smashing success. The Van Gogh Vodka bar may have loosened up the crowd a bit for some lively bidding in the auction, as close to $40,000 was raised.
Congrats to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, which received a $65,000 donation from the Maryland Automobile Dealers Association at the recent Motor Trend Auto Show?s kickoff party at the Convention Center.
WHAT WAS ON BILLY DEE?S PLATE?
While he was in town performing at The Lyric this past week, actor Billy Dee Williams hit Morton?s The Steakhouse and also was spotted at the new RA Sushi hot spot in Harbor East.
PRESIDENTIAL CALL
Imagine, you?re Diane Lyn, the velvet voice of Lite-FM?s morning show, doing your morning gig and the caller is President Clinton. “I mean, what do you say?” Lyn told Socially Speaking. Considering it was primary day, there was a lot of talk about Hillary … and a big YUM! for Maryland crab cakes. “He was a lot of fun.” Lyn added.
