Flooding closes roads in Alexandria

Rains and strong winds caused flooding in parts of Old Town Alexandria Monday, prompting police to close sections of King and Union streets for about two hours during the afternoon.

“We actually thought it was going to be worse, but the winds diminished around the same time as high tide,” said city spokesman Tony Castrilli.

Businesses remained open, although some business owners put out sandbags as a precaution.

Castrilli said no damages were reported, and that the city did not anticipate additional trouble.
