Meet Hal Zeitlin. He’s a junior at Winston Churchill in Montgomery County, and he’s got the kind of resume that makes Georgetown look like a safety school: Student body VP, tutor, active in mock trial and the anti-bullying committee, lobbyist to the school board, a wholesome haircut. Zeitlin is challenging incumbent Alan Xie to be Student Member Of the Board — or “SMOB.”
In Montgomery County, like many jurisdictions, the SMOB brings a student voice to school board meetings. Xie, a junior enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program at Richard Montgomery High School, was originally facing three contenders, but now it’s down to just him and Zeitlin.
The election will take place April 13 (there can be only one!), but you can brush up on what each candidate stands for, or follow Xie’s SMOB blog in the meantime. Good luck, boys!
