BYRON, N.Y. (AP) — Member of a western New York fire department were all dressed up with someplace to go — a Memorial Day parade — when an accident involving a fertilizer hauler scuttled their plans.

The Buffalo News reports (http://bit.ly/1k9AIFV ) that about 20 members of the Byron Fire Department were dressed and ready to march in Monday’s parade in the neighboring town of Bergen when they were called to a crash scene where a 500-gallon tank of ammonia-based fertilizer rolled over just before 8 a.m.

No ammonia leaked, but emergency officials evacuated everyone within a quarter mile radius of the crash scene. No one was injured.

The tanker from a local farm was drained into two other tanks owned by the farm.

Though the firefighters missed the Bergen parade, they finished just in time to march in Byron’s parade.
