Trump postpones state visit to Britain over lack of public support: Report

President Trump postponed his state visit to Britain over a lack of public support, according to a new report.

Trump told Prime Minister Theresa May during a recent phone call he does not want to come to the United Kingdom if there would be massive protests, the Guardian reported Sunday.

May invited Trump when she visited the White House during Trump’s first week in office.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said last week the British government should cancel Trump’s future state visit after the president attacked Khan via Twitter over his response to the London terrorist attack.

“I don’t think we should roll out the red carpet to the president of the U.S.A. in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for,” Khan said.

May said Trump was “wrong” to criticize Khan.

The White House told a Washington Post reporter the report was not true.

“The President has tremendous respect for Prime Minister May. That subject never came up on the call,” spokesman Raj Shah told the Washington Post’s Jenna Johnson.

Johnson reported press secretary Sean Spicer added the report was “false” but wouldn’t say when Trump plans to go to the UK.
