Lori Lightfoot calls Kayleigh McEnany a ‘Karen’ in response to ‘derelict mayor’ swipe

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot took a jab at White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany after she called the Democrat a “derelict mayor” during a press conference.

“Hey, Karen. Watch your mouth,” Lightfoot tweeted Thursday evening, using an insult normally directed at white women quick to call the authorities about minuscule issues.

She was responding to a quote by McEnany tweeted by Time White House correspondent Brian Bennett.

“The derelict mayor of Chicago should step up and ask for federal help because she’s doing a very poor job at securing her streets,” McEnany said during the press conference.

Lightfoot has repeatedly blamed the rise in murders and gun violence in her city over the past year on loose federal gun laws, suggesting residents are going to nearby red states to buy illegal firearms and coming back and committing crimes in the city.

A report by NBC Chicago said shootings increased by 71% in May, with 409 people becoming victims of gun violence, which is up from 332 victims in May 2019. Murders also increased by 60%, with 85 recorded in May, compared with 53 in the same month last year.
