A new poll shows that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp could be vulnerable to a primary challenge if he runs for reelection in 2022.

The poll comes as President Trump has continued to urge Georgia Republicans to challenge Kemp in the GOP primary, with Trump indicating that Rep. Doug Collins should run against him.
The poll shows the president’s message may be sticking with Georgia’s Republican voters, 46.2% of whom answered that Collins would be their preference in such a primary. On the other hand, only 24.5% of Republican voters indicated they would choose Kemp.
Despite Trump and Kemp sharing the same party, the Georgia governor’s relationship with the president has been tumultuous since Election Day. President-elect Joe Biden narrowly won the state, while Trump has insisted fraud cost him the victory.
Trump has called on Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to do more to investigate accusations of fraud, which both have said are not credible.
“This audit disproves the only credible allegations the Trump campaign had against the strength of Georgia’s signature match processes,” Raffensperger said after the state completed an investigation into ballot signatures in Cobb County.
Kemp has said Trump’s calls for him to step aside amount to an unneeded distraction ahead of Georgia’s two senate runoff elections slated for later this week.
“All of these things are a distraction,” Kemp said. “I mean, I’ve supported the president. I’ve said that many times. I worked as hard as anybody in the state on his reelection up through Nov. 3.”
Kemp’s office did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
