Intro message on D.C.’s 311 hotline talks about jail lockdown

Have you called the District’s 311 city services hotline lately? If you have, then you’re well aware that the city’s jail is on lockdown.

That’s the first message heard by residents, tourists and anyone else who calls the hotline looking for motor vehicle services, help with city regulations or information on Mayor Vincent Gray’s “Summer of Fun for Everyone.”

Here’s the opening message:

“Thank you for calling the mayor’s citywide call center. The D.C. Jail will be on lockdown from July 6, 2011, though July 18, 2011, to allow for a routine, facility-wide security search. During a lockdown, normal inmate movement will cease, along with non-emergency social visits. Legal visits will continue.”
