Disneyland opens Avengers Campus to mile-long lines and large crowds

Disneyland‘s latest superhero-themed attraction drew massive crowds to the Anaheim, California, park over the weekend, causing mile-long line formations for the highly anticipated opening of Avengers Campus.

Crowds began forming before the park opened on Friday morning, with some arriving as early as 3:45 a.m., due to the park’s strict pandemic social distancing guidelines limiting attendance to the Marvel-themed attraction, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

By 7:15 a.m. on Friday, a half-mile-long line switched back on itself 17 times and reportedly filled a service road and a bus depot near the outer stretches of the park.

By 9 a.m., the line had extended to over a mile in length.

The most popular attraction of the day was a new ride based on Spider-Man, which was so popular that many attendees were unable to secure a spot on the ride for opening weekend, the outlet added.

Due to the park’s pandemic safety restrictions, attendees are asked to sign up for the ride using digital boarding groups, which booked up within seconds, as opposed to waiting in line. Park-goers sign up for the ride by using a smartphone app.

It is not uncommon for Disney Parks to have outrageous lines and crowds during the first several weekends when a new attraction opens to the public. When Disney World’s “Pandora – The World of Avatar” opened in May 2017 in Orlando, large crowds congregated on opening weekend, causing snaking lines throughout the Animal Kingdom park.

Disneyland’s Avengers Campus was initially slated to open last year but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
