New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo assisted in freeing a struggling motorist who was trapped in a van that had tipped over during a car crash on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway.
The governor, who had just left an event in Manhattan on Monday, stopped his motorcade as it was speeding by the wreck before police had arrived at the scene. He proceeded to pull the driver of the van out of the vehicle, which was resting partially on the median and was on the verge of flipping onto its side after it had slammed into the back of an SUV.
Video taken by Cuomo’s staffers shows him dressed in a suit and tie while cutting the man, who was trapped by his seat belt, free before he and members of his team pulled the man out of what is believed to be a delivery van. The man appeared to be uninjured and was seen walking away from the vehicle with the help of first responders, who arrived shortly after Cuomo, 66.
