Fox News’ Lisa Kennedy lambasted former Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, on Monday for insisting child migrants should be vetted, saying she is “sure these mini rapists all have bombs strapped to their chests.”
The remarks came as Chaffetz attempted to answer a question from “Outnumbered” co-host Harris Faulkner.
“So what do we do with the children that are already here?” Faulkner asked the former congressman, who is also a Fox News contributor.
“First of all, you’ve got to vet them,” Chaffetz replied.
“How do you vet a child?” Faulkner immediately asked.
“Because you’ve got to make sure that the person coming … ” Chaffetz began explaining before being interrupted.
“Come on, man,” Kennedy interrupted. “Yeah, I’m sure these mini rapists all have bombs strapped to their chests.”
“We’re demonizing the wrong people, it’s become so illogical,” she added.
“No, no, no … you are so naive. I can’t believe it,” Chaffetz replied. “There is so much human trafficking.”
“I am far from naive when it comes to this, but I am also not an alarmist,” Kennedy shot back. “You were in Congress for so long, you didn’t fix the system either. Democrats can’t do it, Republicans can’t do it.”
The heated exchange comes as the Trump administration is facing a backlash for separating immigrant children from their parents at the border.
