Security cameras coming to Olde Towne Gaithersburg

Police say they will install surveillance cameras on public streets in Olde Towne Gaithersburg in hopes of combating gang activity near the once- thriving commercial hub.

“Gaithersburg does have a gang problem throughout the city, specifically in Olde Towne,” said acting Police Chief Chris Bonvillain.

Police say a major chunk of the crime, particularly from Hispanic street gangs in recent years, is tied to street robberies in the area.

Bonvillain said they are still analyzing how many cameras they will install between East Diamond and Summit avenues.
