The world’s largest light sculpture will live for two years on the San Francisco Bay Bridge starting on March 5. Almost two miles miles wide and 500 feet high, it uses 25,000 white individually programmed LED lights to create a dazzling display. (March 1)

“This is abstract artwork. It’s not a light show. It’s something kind of new in that it’s using very new material, software and LEDs. People are attracted to light and I think they’ll respond in whatever way. If they know something about the history of art, light sculpture, they might be into that, or technology or algorithms or programming. So I think it will touch on a lot of the things that are sort of key in the Bay Area.”
“We’ve been testing and debugging so everyone’s been watching the process for several weeks now. But we’re launching this piece on March 5 at 9 o’clock. There’ll be a lot of jubilation when it’s finally up and it’ll be up for two years. We’re estimating 50 million people will see it so it’s really an impactful piece of public art.”
