WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago man given a 14-year prison sentence for a drunken-driving crash that killed four has admitted to driving while intoxicated near the site of the 1999 fatal crash.
Walter J. Depner of Mount Prospect pleaded guilty Monday in McHenry County Circuit Court to aggravated driving under the influence. Other traffic offenses were dropped as part of a plea deal. Judge Gordon Graham set a sentencing hearing for Aug. 29.
Prosecutors say the 62-year-old Depner ingested 30 to 40 Klonopin pills before getting behind the wheel on Feb. 24, 2013. He was observed weaving in traffic before plowing into a snow bank.
Depner served 12 years of a 14-year sentence for reckless homicide for the crash that killed 34-year-old Eva Burleson, 13-year-old Daniel, 11-year-old Tiffany, and 7-year-old Dallis.
