An Arizona man is facing charges after 183 dead animals were found in his freezer.
The animals, including dogs, turtles, lizards, birds, snakes, mice, rats, and rabbits, were found frozen, several of which appeared to be “frozen alive due to their body positioning,” the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The resident of the home, Michael Turland, 43, was arrested Wednesday and charged with 94 counts of felony animal cruelty.
The animals were discovered on the property after a woman called police to conduct an animal welfare check on April 3. A woman in Phoenix who said she gave Turland her snakes to breed reported that several dead animals were in a freezer.

The woman said she had been contacted by the property owner after months of no word from Turland. The property owner told her Turland and his wife, Brooklyn Beck, had moved out of state and that a freezer of dead animals was found as he cleaned out the property.
Turland, who was brought into custody Wednesday after police learned he was at the property, admitted to placing several of the animals in the freezer while they were still alive.

Police are still investigating why so many animals were on the property and the circumstances surrounding their deaths. Turland is being held at Mohave County Adult Detention Facility.
