House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted President Trump, claiming he is “too afraid” to allow witnesses at his Senate impeachment trial.
“In the Clinton impeachment process, 66 witnesses were allowed to testify including 3 in the Senate trial, and 90,000 pages of documents were turned over,” tweeted the California Democrat on Monday. “Trump was too afraid to let any of his top aides testify & covered up every single document. The Senate must #EndTheCoverUp.“

Pelosi, 79, along with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, spearheaded the House investigation into Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump, 73, was impeached by the House of Representatives on two articles, obstruction of Congress and abuse of power, last month.
Hours before Pelosi’s criticism, Trump retweeted an image of her and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in Islamic garb and suggested she should testify in his Senate trial. Pelosi has yet to send the two articles of impeachment to the Senate for a trial because she is awaiting confirmation that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will hold a fair trial.
Last week, McConnell signed a resolution to dismiss Trump’s impeachment without hearing from witnesses if Pelosi does not send the two articles within 25 days after their passage.
