Suspect shoots at Baltimore Co. cop

A suspect breaking into vehicles in northern Baltimore County shot at an officer with a handgun Monday morning, causing a SWAT team hunt for the man. At 4:46 a.m. a police officer responded to a call for destruction of property in progress along Hedgewood Road in the Timonium area.

As he arrived, the officer encountered two male suspects, according to Baltimore County police spokesman Cpl. Mike Hill.

When the officer attempted to talk to the suspects, one turned around and fired a handgun at the officer, missing him. The officer returned fire, and the suspect who fired the handgun ran off, police said.

“It?s unknown whether the suspect was injured,” Hill said.

The other suspect remained at he scene and was arrested by the officer.

After the officer returned to his vehicle, he continued search for the suspect who tried to kill him, and saw the man enter a nearby house, Hill said.

Baltimore County police surrounded the house and, after trying to contact the suspect, used a SWAT team to break into the house at 8:50 a.m. only to find it empty.

Police are questioning the arrested suspect and learned that the duo was breaking into cars along Hedgwood Road, Hill said.

Police have not released the identities of anyone involved in the incident.
