Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called out NASCAR and those condemning Brandon Brown’s LGBcoin sponsorship, questioning why it is now not OK to speak out against a president.
NASCAR denied Brandon Brown’s request to feature the LGBcoin, a cryptocurrency meme coin based on the “Let’s Go Brandon” euphemism for “F*** Joe Biden,” as his primary sponsor Tuesday.
“All of a sudden, it all has to be sanitized because the regime doesn’t want to have anybody speak out against it,” DeSantis said while speaking at a news conference in West Palm Beach on Thursday.
DeSantis added that Brown is being punished for a crowd chanting while a reporter tried to run interference and brought great attention to it.
“That’s why it took off — because people are looking at it and saying, ‘Wait a minute! You’re gaslighting us again, and we’re sick of it,'” DeSantis said. “It’s as much a rebuke to some of the corporate media out there as it to Biden himself.”
The governor noted that a few years ago, it was acceptable to speak out against former President Donald Trump.
“I mean, it’s not always the best thing to say, but fine,” DeSantis added. “I’m very much in favor of letting people speak their mind, however they want to do it.”
NASCAR ruled that the LGBcoin is not an approved sponsorship late Tuesday. The NASCAR Xfinity Series rulebook states that it may refuse sponsorships that are deemed “detrimental to the sport.”
