Sinead O’Connor blames the ‘Irish State’ for son’s death

Singer Sinead O’Connor faulted the “Irish State” when she announced the death of her 17-year-old son.

Her son, Shane O’Connor, went missing earlier in the week and was on a suicide watch at Tallaght Hospital. Sinead O’Connor said she was able to identify his remains and expressed concerns about how he was able to escape the facility’s care.

“May God forgive the Irish State for I never will,” she said in a tweet. “How has a seventeen year old traumatised young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hosptial’s Lynn Ward been able to go missing??? Hospital of course so far refusing to take any responsibility.”

The Gardai, a police service in Ireland, conducted a search for her son and expressed concerns for his welfare before his remains were discovered. The Gardai told the Washington Examiner it was not its policy to comment on named individuals but noted the agency was assisting the coroner.

The singer hinted she might file lawsuits over her son’s death.

“Now Tusla want to discuss with me ‘a media release’ no doubt wishing to have me join in their efforts to make this death of my child seem like it wasn’t at the hands of the Irish State,” she tweeted. “I’m going to take private time now to grieve my son. When I am ready I will be telling exactly how the Irish State in the ignorant, evil, self-serving, lying forms of Tusla and the HSE enabled and facilitated his death.”

She was met with condolences and an outpouring of support on Twitter after announcing the teenager’s death.

Sinead O’Connor has not discussed the circumstances of her son’s death but noted that he recently made two “severe suicide attempts.” She previously pleaded with him on Twitter to come back and turn himself in to authorities so he could get help.

“Shane, your life is precious,” she tweeted when he went missing. “God didn’t chisel that beautiful smile on your beautiful face for nothing. My world would collapse without you. You are my heart. Please don’t stop it from beating. Please don’t harm yourself. Go to the Gardai and let’s get you to hospital.”
