Meghan McCain to Amy Klobuchar: Leave my father out of it

Meghan McCain criticized Amy Klobuchar on Monday for using her father’s memory for political purposes after the Democratic hopeful revealed that John McCain had recited the names of dictators during President Trump’s inauguration.

Klobuchar made the claim during a presidential campaign stop in Iowa, much to McCain’s disapproval.

“On behalf of the entire McCain family – @amyklobuchar please be respectful to all of us and leave my father’s legacy and memory out of presidential politics,” she tweeted.

Her late father had a reputation as an independent-minded senator and clashed repeatedly with Trump.

Trump continued the feud even after McCain died in August 2018. “I was never a fan of John McCain and I will never be,” he said this year.

The Arizona Republican made clear his distaste for Trump during his inauguration speech in January 2017, Klobuchar recounted Saturday.

“I sat on that stage between Bernie and John McCain, and John McCain kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation,” she said in Iowa, according to the Des Moines Register.

“He understood it. He knew because he knew this man more than any of us did,” she said.
