CIA, other spy agencies agree North Korea has mini nuclear weapon: Report

The CIA, as well as other U.S. intelligence agencies, are backing an assessment stating North Korea successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear weapon to place on a ballistic missile, according to a report.

U.S. officials told NBC News the intelligence agencies, including the CIA and Office of the Director of National Intelligence, support an assessment completed by the Defense Intelligence Agency and revealed by the Washington Post on Tuesday. At the time of the Post’s report, it wasn’t clear whether other intelligence agencies backed the Defense Intelligence Agency’s analysis.

Though other intelligence agencies agree with the assessment, it’s unclear whether the agencies have a low, medium, or high level of confidence in the intelligence.

Tensions between the U.S. and North Korea escalated after the U.N. Security Council unanimously passed a resolution to place additional sanctions on the rogue regime.

North Korea said Tuesday that “packs of wolves are coming in attack to strangle a nation.” That statement, coupled with the Post’s report, prompted Trump to issue a stern warning to North Korea.

“They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen,” Trump told reporters Tuesday.

Following the president’s statements, North Korea threatened fire missiles at Guam, a U.S. territory in the Pacific Ocean.
