Former Virginia Sen. George Allen is welcoming back an old friend to the team.
Mike Thomas, who ran Allen’s 1993 gubernatorial campaign and served as his chief of staff during Allen’s tenure in the Senate, will manage the former Virginia governor’s campaign for U.S. Senate in 2012.
“Mike understands campaigns are won with principles and ideas advocated at the local level, home by home,” Allen said.
Thomas, a longtime Republican operative and Allen adviser who has served as first vice chairman of the state party for the past 15 years, will leave his post at McGuireWoods Consulting to join Team Allen.
Allen will face at least two GOP primary opponents in tea party leader Jamie Radtke and Hampton Roads Attorney David McCormick. Jon Henke, who worked for Allen on his unsuccessful 2006 Senate campaign, will be working for Radtke this time around.
