PERSONAL STATS

1. FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD HANGOUT
Cactus Cantina (3300 Wisconsin Ave.): best fajitas al carbon in history! The ambiance is slightly subpar but the food compensates.
2. BEST MODE OF TRANSPORTATION
D.C. Metro. It takes forever, is subject to frequent disruption and doesn’t cover most of the city — but its one of the cleanest in the country, and I love it anyway.
3. FAVORITE LOCAL SPORTS EVENT
When the Nationals play the Chicago Cubs or the White Sox in the summertime; and as a golf fan I like the Tiger Woods Golf Event at Congressional Country Club.
4. BEST PLACE FOR LIVE MUSIC
Bob Dylan at George Washington University’s Jack Morton Auditorium. Dark Star Orchestra at the 9:30 Club. I’m not loyal to a venue. I am loyal to musicians.
5. BEST PLACE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN VISITORS
My grandma was here last week and we gave her a tour of the U.S. Capitol. That’s my favorite. A special thanks should be extended to Jeri Thomson, the former secretary of the Senate, for helping create an impressive Capitol Visitors Center as well.
6. FAVORITE MUSEUM
The Newseum — by a landslide.
7. MOST ROMANTIC SPOT
The National Cathedral for the view of D.C.
8. FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A LAZY SUNDAY
I don’t have lazy Sundays.
9. BEN’S CHILI BOWL, OLD EBBITT GRILL OR CAFE MILANO?
None. Ben’s Chili Bowl has become a bit too trendy. Old Ebbitt Grill — you can’t get a table! And Cafe Milano, I’ve never been.
10. BEST OUT-OF-TOWN RETREAT
New York City. Just over three hours on the Amtrak. Seven hours by Bolt bus!
11. BEST INSIDE-THE-BELTWAY RETREAT
I’m puzzled by this question.
12. FAVORITE MONUMENT
Lincoln Memorial. I’m from Illinois.
13. PROUDEST PART OF LIVING IN THE D.C. REGION
I am from Chicago, and the amount of Chicagoans in town. It’s like Chicago took a sabbatical here.
14. EMBARRASSING PART OF LIVING IN D.C. REGION
Our office is a block from the White House so when I wear jeans and a flannel to work and take a coffee break at Starbucks, I find myself horribly underdressed.
15. BEST BREAKFAST SPOT
Odeon Cafe in Dupont Circle. Anything but Founding Farmers.
16. BEST COFFEE SHOP
G Street Food (1706 G St. NW). They do good work over there.
