Man who said he was campaigning for Beto O’Rourke broke into home and stole a Popsicle

A man who claimed he was campaigning for 2020 hopeful Beto O’Rourke was arrested Tuesday after allegedly breaking into a Texas home and eating a Popsicle.

James Bradford Gibbon II, 28, was wearing a T-shirt supporting O’Rourke when police caught him coming out of a home.

A woman who owned the house said she walked in on him eating a Popsicle in her kitchen. Her son then called 911.

Before the break-in, a neighbor asked Gibbon what he was doing and Gibbon responded that he was “campaigning for Beto for president,” according to the arrest affidavit.

Police said Gibbon admitted that he did not have permission to enter the home and he looked through a wallet and briefcase and tried to gain access to an iPad when he took a Popsicle.

A spokesman for O’Rourke told the Austin American-Statesman that Gibbon was never employed by the campaign.

Gibbon has been charged with burglary of a residence for allegedly taking the Popsicle. He is being held at the Travis County Correctional Complex on $12,000 bail, according to jail records.
