A 12-year-old girl who had been missing from Virginia for a week, and the man who is charged wtih abducting her, were found in San Francisco Friday night.
Roanoke County authorities said Brittany Mae Smith and Jeffrey Scott Easley were in a store when a woman recognized them from news reports and called police.
The pair was last seen in Virginia on Dec. 3. An Amber Alert for Brittany had been issued Monday, after her mother, Tina Smith, was found dead in their home. Easley had been living with them since October.
Easley has been charged with felony abduction.
Smith’s death has been ruled a homicide and is still under investigation.
Roanoke authorities said police received more than 700 tips from across the country during the investigation.
