Former Secretary of State John Kerry is “absolutely supportive” of President Trump’s decision to launch a strike against a Syrian air base tied to a chemical weapons attack on Tuesday which left dozens of civilians dead, according to a report Friday.
Kerry has long supported the use of force against the Syrian regime, though his former boss, President Barack Obama, refused to pursue military action against Assad even after he launched a chemical weapons attack that killed hundreds of people in 2013.
A Politico report cites an unnamed person close to Kerry who said Kerry was not only “absolutely supportive” of Trump’s strike, but also “gratified to see that it happened quickly.”
The unnamed source also said Kerry “believes if executed correctly and clearly, [military action] can help reenergize the diplomatic channel” which could lead to a peal deal to end the years-long conflict in the war-torn country.
