Trump celebrates endorsement wins after Tuesday primaries

This week’s primary elections saw high-profile wins for several Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, who celebrated his perfect endorsement record in both Florida and New York.

All of Trump’s endorsees, including some Democrats he jokingly supported, emerged victorious from their primary challenges on Tuesday, bolstering the former president’s endorsement record for the 2022 midterm cycle. Trump endorsed 22 Republican candidates in Florida and New York and referenced four more in his celebration post on Truth Social on Tuesday night, likely referring to sarcastic endorsements he offered those in the Democratic Party.

A COMPREHENSIVE LOOK AT TRUMP’S 2022 ENDORSEMENT RECORD

“Looks like a fantastic evening of ALL WINS — Great Candidates!!!” Trump posted on his social media platform. “26 and 0 tonight, turning numerous tight races into big and easy wins. Overall for last 4 years, 98.4% on Endorsements!”

Trump’s endorsements for the House in Florida swept the primary races on Tuesday after 14 endorsees emerged victorious. That list includes Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who handily survived his primary challenge despite facing investigations into sex trafficking allegations.

The former president endorsed Gaetz just days before the primary election was held, calling the Florida Republican “a relentless Fighter for the incredible people of Florida’s 1st Congressional District!”

Trump had a handful of wins in New York as well, with three of his endorsees — Reps. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), Claudia Tenney (R-NY), and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) — fending off their challengers. Meanwhile, in Oklahoma, Trump-backed Markwayne Mullin won the GOP primary runoff election for the Sooner State’s Senate seat to finish out incumbent Sen. Jim Inhofe’s (R-OK) term.

The former president seemingly took credit for some wins on the opposite side of the aisle after he jokingly endorsed a handful of Democrats in New York, such as Dan Goldman, who was the lead counsel to House managers in Trump’s first impeachment trial.

“It is my great honor to Strongly Endorse him,” Trump said in a Truth Social post last week. “I do this not because of the fact that he headed up the Impeachment Committee and lost, but because he was honorable, fair, and highly intelligent.”

Trump has endorsed more than 230 candidates in the midterm elections, with 206 wins and 19 losses as of Aug. 24, according to the Washington Examiner’s endorsement record. At least six of Trump’s endorsees have yet to compete in their primaries, with elections in Michigan, Massachusetts, and Louisiana not scheduled until later this year.
