The Fairfax County Animal Shelter has cats up for adoption again after having to euthanize all 80 of its cats in late June, when they were infected with a highly contagious virus.
About 50 infected cats were brought to the shelter from the home of a hoarder, infecting the other cats with the virus that would not abate even after vaccinations.
Now Fairfax has new cats ready to be taken home, and is celebrating with an event called “ExtravaCATza! 2011.” The first 100 cats adopted in June and August will receive a free spay or neuter, and cats over seven years old won’t come with an adoption fee.
