Buttigieg: Mueller report won’t change much, so vote

2020 Democratic hopeful Pete Buttigieg warned those crossing their fingers that the Mueller report would be devastating to President Trump not to get their hopes up.

“Politically, I’m not sure it will change much. It’s one more reminder that if we really want to send Trumpism into the history books, the best thing we can do is defeat it decisively at the ballot box in 2020,” the South Bend, Ind., mayor told the “Late Night with Seth Meyers” show on Thursday.

The Justice Department released a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s long-awaited report Thursday, detailing the contacts the Trump campaign had with the Russians during the 2016 campaign and 10 instances of possible obstruction of justice.

“It confirmed a lot of things that we were worried about,” Buttigieg said. “We have a president who acts in a self-serving way. There was a lot of behavior that was at best unethical and we believe problematic, to put it charitably.”

Another 2020 hopeful, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, said there should be consequences for the behavior described in the Mueller report.

“I am very concerned about mendacity, the lying, the cover-ups and the attempts to cover up, within the Trump administration. And absolutely, there should be consequences and accountability for that,” he said during a campaign stop in New Hampshire.
