Laura Ingraham: ‘Liberals are kind of like herpes’

Fox News host Laura Ingraham said “liberals are kind of like herpes,” because “just when you think you have it beat, they come back again.”

In a rabble-rousing speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday, the Fox News host paraphrased actor Tim Allen’s barb originally aimed at the Clintons.

“A friend of mine, who happens to be a religious figure, said ‘Laura, you’re talking to CPAC people, you guys got to have a good time, you’ve got to laugh,’” she said. “’Remember what Tim Allen once said about the Clintons.’ … I couldn’t remember the line. He said, ‘Well you could apply it to liberals in general.’ Liberals are kind of like herpes. Just when you think you have it beat, they come back again.”

“They’re not mad because they’re winning on the Left. They are infuriated because they’re losing,” Ingraham told the crowd in National Harbor, Md., just outside Washington.

“Maybe 25 years from now, when a lot of you are my age, you’re going to hear about how good things were in 2016 and the next four years. And how maybe some new upstart who is running against the establishment is not as optimistic or positive as Donald Trump was,” she said.

Ingraham said the Republican grassroots movement is living in what will one day be referred to as “the good old days.”

“These are the good old days because the way it is today, even with all the rancor and the resistance … These are the ways it was in the ’80s,” she added, referring to former President Ronald Reagan’s administration.

The national radio talk show host warned young activists that while it is easy to succumb to ideas like “we’re going to tear down the Left,” they should focus on the advancing conservative ideas through policy reforms.

Ingraham said conservatives ought to rejoice over the Trump administration’s achievements and the GOP’s holding the House, Senate, and White House, even as a “false narrative” that America is “going to hell in a handbasket” continues.

“Young conservatives here today and listening across the country, I say to you one piece of advice: Smile. Life is very good,” she declared.
