Ex-Hillary Clinton adviser: Trump’s presidency is ‘a disaster beyond anything I envisioned’

A former foreign policy adviser to Hillary Clinton said President Trump’s first year in office is going worse than he could have imagined.

“On the one hand, it’s a disaster beyond anything I envisioned — and I envisioned a giant disaster,” Jake Sullivan told Politico. “On every front, it’s terrible — civil rights, economic fairness, affordable health care, America’s standing in the world, nuclear security, basic human decency … the list goes on.”

Yet Sullivan said he stills feels hopeful about America’s future.

“We are seeing how, as Trump is testing this country, more and more people are stepping up. That is keeping me optimistic about the future,” he said.

Sullivan has previously compared Trump’s behavior to that of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un after Trump vowed to deliver “fire and fury like the world has never seen” if North Korea continues threatening the U.S.

“It just doesn’t help when our allies and the countries in the region can’t tell whether it’s Donald Trump or Kim Jong Un who’s the crazier one,” Sullivan said in August.
