Sexual assault suspect arrested in La.

A Silver Spring man with pending sexual assault charges who was mistakenly released from state prison in November was arrested in Lousiana after attempting to break into a house.

Ronald Lee Moore, 40, was arrested by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff?s Office in Hahnville, La., when authorities learned he fled the alleged crimescene by bike in nearby Destrehan, La, around 7 p.m. Dec. 24, said spokesman Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange on Thursday.

Destrehan is about 24 miles west of New Orleans.

“We?re extremely pleased we were able to pick him and hope that justice will prevail,” said LeGrange.

After being questioned, Moore provided a fake name, but officials soon learned his real identify and that he was wanted by Anne Arundel authorities.

Moore was released Nov. 21 from the Baltimore City Correctional Center because of an “oversight,” and was supposed to be transferred to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center, according to the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

DNA evidence gathered from a previous case linked him to the sexual assault of a Glen Burnie woman Oct. 23, 1999, according to court records. Police said he punched the woman and shocked her with a “cow prod.”

He was charged with first- and second-degree sex offense, unnatural or perverted practice, second-degree assault first-degree burglary.

He is awaiting extradition to Maryland at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Louisiana. A local magistrate Thursday did not issue a bond and Moore faces charges of attempted burglary and providing false information, LaGrange said.
