SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Workers have called off a one-day strike for Friday that would have affected thousands of commuters who use buses to cross the Golden Gate bridge.
Golden Gate Bridge district spokeswoman Priya Clemens says a tentative agreement was reached Thursday with the Golden Gate Bridge Labor Coalition, which includes 13 unions.
Priya wouldn’t discuss the terms of the tentative agreement. She says it will be presented to the district’s Board for approval on Oct. 24. Members of the 13 unions will also have to ratify the deal.
About 450 employees have been working without a contract since July and in September staged two one-day strikes. Pay raises and health insurance costs are among the sticking points.
Clemens says Gov. Jerry Brown’s office offered advice that helped reach a temporary resolution.
