Hardball with Chris Matthews faced ridicule for announcing an upcoming panel featuring former White House staffers Anthony Scaramucci and Omarosa Manigault Newman.
The show announced on social media that the two former White House staffers will be on the show Friday, presumably to talk about how they both supported the president but then turned against him. But the announcement was met with widespread criticism.
Much of the backlash surrounding both Manigault and Scaramucci’s appearances on the network center around the belief that both of them want to remain relevant following their departures from the administration. Further, many political observers wonder if either of them offer insights worthy of such appearances.
Former CNN host Soledad O’Brien responded to the announcement to say that, “Journalism is failing you.”
Similarly, reporter Molly Jong-Fast tweeted, “The media asks itself how can we avoid making the mistakes of 2016? By not doing this.”

Scaramucci’s separation from the administration became more official this week when he said the GOP should consider nominating someone else to the top of the ticket in 2020. The president responded by criticizing the former staffer on social media.
