SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County Police say a dog attacked and seriously injured a woman who was caring for it while its owner was out of town.
Officers received a 911 call about 12:10 p.m. Thursday from a woman who said she was being attacked by a dog, but the call disconnected. Officers used cellphone tower information to find the Silver Spring neighborhood where the attack was occurring.
Police say when officers arrived, they heard screaming coming from a house and entered it. Authorities say officers saw a 40-pound dog attacking the 54-year-old woman. Police say the dog charged the officers, who shot and killed the animal.
The woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Animal Services Division officers removed 10 other dogs from the house.
