John Podhoretz, in only his second post at Commentary‘s Contentions blog, has catalogued some of the “feminist” responses to the recent attacks on Hillary Clinton, but one in particular stands out as worthy of endless ridicule. At the end of a semi-incoherent post explaining why Tim Russert is worse than the “loaded” and “racist” correspondents at Fox News, Linda Hirshman, writing at TNR’s Open University blog, closes with this warning to those who would “pile-on” Hillary:
Oh, and for you Obama and Edwards supporters, remember the story about the man who didn’t stand up to the Nazis when they came for his neighbors.
I’m pretty sure that Hirshman just called Tim Russert a Nazi, which, despite all the unpleasant things people have said about the man, is likely to be a first. But it’s one of her commenters that responds best I think:
Finally, your last sentence–which I don’t totally understand–seems apocalyptically bizarre and of a piece with your disproportionate criticism of Russert.
Now that’s an understatement.
