Anne Boone-Simanski: Lot O fun will be weekly ESPN feature

The folks at ESPN 1300 sports radio have joined forces with CBS Radio and come up with a heck of an idea. Lot O, which is located at the corner of Ridgely and Osten streets next to M&T Bank Stadium, is going to be their official “Gameday ? Uncensored” broadcast location.

Scott Garceau and Tom Matte are gearing up for the Ravens? Sept. 17 home opener against the Oakland Raiders by hosting a live pregame broadcast that will include lots of entertainment, many celebrities and, I?m sure, a fair amount of beverages. It?s going to knock the socks off football fans. A little raven told me they are expecting more than 300 people for what could be ? if CBS Radio?s Bob Philips has anything to do with it ? “the best tailgate party in the country.”

Lot O parking spaces have sold out, but that same little raven told me you can find a few parking passes on eBay for a higher price than the original $350 for all of the Ravens? home games. So head over and be a part of the launch of “Gameday ? Uncensored.” You may even get to rub elbows with the co-host of ESPN?s Mark ViViano show ? Damon “Bulldog” Yaffe. Festivities will begin three hours before the 1 p.m. kickoff.

STEP RIGHT UP … FOR CHARITY

Two tootsies up to the employees at Allegis, who stepped up to a company challenge to raise money. Johns Hopkins? community relations gal Jessica McQuay said, “the group formed teams, and whichever team raised the most money got to pick the charity.”

The Johns Hopkins Burn Center was the choice of the winning team, which included Myra Griffin, Kellie Batz, Heather Bonney, Chaz Hartley, Stacy Terry and Irene Wilson. This was an exercise-driven program called Strivesteps, where the teams kept track of their “steps” via a pedometer, and whoever logged in the most steps won.

McQuay also told us that a grateful Mary Clark of the Burn Center and the medical center?s director of development, Tom Malstrom, paid a visit to Allegis recently to accept a check of $5,000. For the record, the winning team logged more than 1.1 million steps during the eight-week program. Bet there are some tired tootsies over there.

COMING UP

On Sept. 17, the Animal Rescue?s annual “Dog?s Day in the Park” will take place at Oregon Ridge from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. One of the event?s organizers, Colleen Feld, is trying to hold a Ravens-themed raffle and needs donations to make it a success. So how about it, Ravens fans and pet lovers ? throw her a bone by donating. You can contact her at 410-876-9879. All proceeds benefit the wonderful efforts of the Animal Rescue volunteers.
