The tattered relationship between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Trump seemed to have fallen further apart after the commander in chief was asked to respond to the California Democrat’s claim that he should not take hydroxychloroquine because he is “morbidly obese.”
Pelosi made the remark Monday on CNN after Trump surprised the press by announcing he was taking the drug, along with zinc, as a preventative measure to stave off the coronavirus.
Trump, when asked about Pelosi’s insult after his meeting with GOP senators in the Capitol, said he didn’t respond to Pelosi. “I think she’s a waste of time.”
Later in the short press conference, Trump again took aim at Pelosi after criticizing her effort to impeach him over allegations that he colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.
“These people are sick,” Trump said of the Democrats. “Pelosi is a sick woman. She’s got a lot of problems. A lot of mental problems. We are dealing with people who have to get their act together for the good of the country.”
Pelosi and Trump have not talked since October. Trump’s top aides and Vice President Mike Pence negotiate with Democrats on must-pass legislation on his behalf.
On CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 last night, Pelosi said she did not believe Trump should be taking hydroxychloroquine.
“He’s our president, and I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists, especially in his age group and in his, shall we say, weight group — morbidly obese, they say,” Pelosi said.
