Trump picks New York Jets owner for UK ambassador

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is going to be President-elect Trump’s pick to be ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Trump made the surprise announcement during brief remarks Thursday afternoon and multiple outlets confirmed the announcement with the transition team.

If approved by the Senate, Johnson would be taking over one of the top American diplomatic posts. He contributed millions of dollars to Republicans in the election, initially supporting former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in the election.

Johnson is the heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical and consumer products company.
