Trump: Bannon is ‘alt-left’

President Trump on Monday referred to his chief strategist Steve Bannon as “alt-left,” the opposite of the alt-right term some liberals have used to refer to him.

“Bannon’s more of a libertarian than anything else, if you want to know the truth,” Trump told Bloomberg, using the label “alt-left.”

The president maintained the former Breitbart chairman was a “very decent guy” who has gotten a “bad rap” for his work in the conservative media.

Trump also insisted Bannon will remain in his top White House position a few months from now. The comment comes weeks after reports that infighting in the Trump administration was leading to layoffs.

“Bannon is a very decent guy who feels very strongly about the country. Likewise, Jared. And they’re getting along fine,” Trump said about his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. “We have a lot of people that are getting along well … It’s coming out better now than it was, you know, for a while. And for a while it was a little testy, I guess for some of them, but I said they’ve got to get their acts together.”
