Drivers on the Capital Beltway can get two free weeks of travel on the new express lanes if they open a new E-ZPass account in September, the company operating the lanes announced Tuesday.
The new lanes, which will charge a toll for a less congested drive, are set to open in December. The lanes will be free for carpoolers with new E-ZPass Flex transponders.
The tolls will vary based on how long riders stay in the lanes, but officials have estimated an average $5 toll.
Company officials said the two-week toll giveaway is part of an “educational campaign” to prepare drivers for the opening.
To get the free two weeks, drivers must register at www.495ExpressLanes.com/offer and get a new E-ZPass in September.
