THE DAILY OUTRAGE: Charge it to the kids

WHO: National Endowment for the Arts

WHAT: The NEA gave the Washington State Arts Commission $285,000 in federal stimulus funds. The commission is spending $11,500 of it to supplement the salaries of staffers who work for the nonprofit Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts, which offers free shows “fostering understanding and even appreciation for cultures beyond our Olympic Peninsula” to local schools.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: The shows aren’t “free.” Those children will be paying for them the rest of their lives.

WHERE TO VENT: Call the NEA at 202-642-5400.
