Facebook fact-checks viral video of Nancy Pelosi slurring her words as ‘partly false’

Facebook slapped a fact-check label on an altered video of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that went viral last week.

The deceptive video portrayed Pelosi as being drunk or high by slowing down a speech she made at a news conference earlier this year.

The social media giant is now labeling the video with a “partly false” warning courtesy of multiple sources that fact-checked the video, including their partners, Lead Stories, and Reuters.

“The information in this post is a mix of true and false statements or it could simply be incomplete,” the label reads. “In some cases, the information is misleading.”

The video originated from a user named Will Allen, who posted the video with the caption: “This is unbelievable, she is blowed out of her mind, I bet this gets taken down!”

A label at the end of the video showed that it originated on video-sharing social media app TikTok, which is currently at risk of being banned by the United States over cybersecurity concerns.

The altered video was seen by over 2 million viewers. It is the second fake video of Pelosi that’s come out in the last few months.

A similarly altered video making Pelosi appear intoxicated came out in May, which slowed down a speech she made at an event at the Center for American Progress. That video was seen by more than 2.8 million users on Facebook.
