Stocks tank at opening bell because of coronavirus fears

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined further on Friday as the index dropped 1.92% in its worst week in years as investors feared economic dislocation from the coronavirus outbreak. Since last Friday, the index has lost over 3,700 points.

Declines in the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq composite also continued, with those indexes dropping 2.67% and 2.89%, respectively.

The markets continue to react to the spreading of the coronavirus. On Thursday, New Zealand and Nigeria reported their first cases of the virus. The United Kingdom on Friday reported its first death from the virus. The victim was a former passenger on the Diamond Princess, the cruise ship on which several passengers were infected by the virus.
