Biden willing to debate Trump ‘any time he wants’

Joe Biden might not be willing to debate Bernie Sanders anymore, but he’s fully prepared to start taking on President Trump.

In an interview with radio host Enrique Santos Wednesday, the former vice president said he’s “ready to debate President Trump on Zoom or Skype, any time he wants.”

The first of three general election debates isn’t scheduled until Sept. 29 at the University of Notre Dame.

As Biden’s campaign is stuck in limbo and desperately trying to garner media attention in the wake of a pandemic claiming thousands of lives, challenging the president to a debate is a likely way to bring attention to his White House bid.

Biden’s remarks come after rising tensions between him and Sanders, his remaining Democratic primary opponent, over the former Delaware senator’s reluctance to debate the Vermont senator again. Sanders has virtually no path to the nomination at this point, leading Biden and his team to say any further contests would be a waste of time.

“I haven’t thought about any more debates,” Biden said last week in a virtual press conference. “I think we’ve had enough debates. I think we should get on with this.”

The Sanders campaign, which insists it still has a narrow path to the nomination, says he plans on participating in the April debate should the Democratic National Committee schedule one.
